Native Plant Garden / Creek Cleanup!

Thanks to everyone who joined us on Saturday! We had more than 40 participants, including Pinole Valley High and Richmond High EarthTeam members, folks from Friends of Alhambra Creek, plenty of new and experienced folks, and Mayor Maureen Toms. The amount of trash collected along the trail and in the creek has decreased (see photo of data). Thanks to the city for installing a new trash can at the entrance to the trail which will hopefully help with trash as well.

The Native Plant Garden expanded towards the creek with lots of work removing ivy, sheet mulching, planting, and erosion control along the bank. More than 60 plants were installed and goldenrod rhizomes from a local Pinole garden were planted as well. What an amazing job!

We learned more about the proposed Creekside Park. Participants added comments and suggestions.

Mayor Toms shared that CalTrans is working towards barriers to prevent Hwy 80 trash from going down the banks into the creek.

A fabulous event!
