January Community Creek Cleanup

Wow, Pinoleans and Allies stepped up in a big way to pick up trash, pull ivy, and weed at the Pinole Library Native Plant Garden! Over 35 volunteers worked like crazy to make the creek and its riparian corridor a better place. We collected 52 gallons/45 pounds of trash from our normal haunts along the Pinole Valley High School trail, and another 78 gallons/81 pounds of trash that had been buried for years under a blanket of invasive English ivy. As the RCD and SOS Richmond team keep getting rid of the ivy, more trash surfaces. But neither the ivy nor the trash are a match for dedicated Pinole Creek Allies!

Come clean up trash behind the library that has been hidden by years of English ivy growth. We may also spend some time sheet mulching or pulling out more of the ivy. Goal is to clear the ivy on the library side of the creek all the way to Pinole Valley Road. Now that would be something!! Thanks, Resource Conservation District and SOS Richmond for good work!

The trail alongside PVHS could also use some cleanup, so we’ll also put in some work there.

Heavy rain cancels. The weather fooled us in December, but hopefully we won’t be caught out this time!
