Gardening Along Pinole Creek

Discover the art of using plants to combat erosion and learn how to implement permaculture techniques in your own garden. Join us at the Gardening on Pinole Creek Event, hosted by Charlotte and Arthur Blodwynne-Heart, members of Friends of Pinole Creek Watershed (FOPCW).

Charlotte and Arthur have successfully transformed their one-acre property along Pinole Creek into a botanical sanctuary and flourishing food forest. Explore their garden and discover the diverse range of pollinator-friendly natives and non-natives they have planted, including endangered medicinal species. Don't miss this opportunity to learn from their expertise and be inspired by their remarkable achievements.

California Bumble Bee Atlas Training

We are excited to partner with the Xerxes Society and the Bumble Bee Atlas Team to offer this public training on April 13. We will meet in the Pinole Public Library meeting room for training and treats and then go out into the garden to practice netting and identifying bumble bees. This community-science project promises to add data and deeper understanding to the plight of native pollinators. Please register at the link below or on the flyer as space is limited! (Word has it that KPIX is interested in continuing its story on our work welcoming pollinators, now that would be cool!)

August Community Creek Cleanup

Thanks to the Rotary Club for hosting and showing up! Thanks to St Joseph School for letting their students know about the cleanup! The girls (and their moms) who showed up were great! The weight and volume are almost identical to that collected in May at the same place but it was discouraging to pick up the number of cigarette butts found behind the library. Maybe a receptacle would be a good answer there? Participants also dragged 2 grocery carts out of the creek. All in all, it was a successful event. Thank you to everyone who participated!
