A great day!
Despite scouring the trail and fish passage, 34 dedicated volunteers were able to gather only 66.5 pounds of trash. This was a total of 102.5 gallons. We're making progress! (Down from 112 pounds in January 2024 and 95 pounds in October 2024)
A large majority of the trash was from freeway trash flying or flowing down the hill towards the creek. Hopefully the work that CalTrans is doing will help prevent that in the future. There was also a contest to challenge volunteer Becky who is the queen of cigarette butt collection. She collected 217+ cigarette butts! That wasn't enough to stop young volunteer Alejandro who won a $20 bill for beating her total. Imagine, almost 500 cigarette butts collected. Volunteer Brian risked life and limb to get a piece of plastic packing which was wrapped in a tree. Our youngest volunteer was 3 years old. Getting into the action at a young age!! And thanks, Rotary Club, for showing up! Well done, All!!!
